Bee Queens

Slovenia is home to the Carniolan honey bee. This species was first scientifically described and mentioned here. In Slovenia, only Carniolan honey bees are allowed to be kept — no other race may be imported or kept. Beekeepers perform basic selection to ensure breed purity and queen quality.

Beekeepers at Cvet beekeeping are thoroughly familiar with the traditional queen-rearing system using larval grafting, with a starter colony and a nurse colony. Queen bees mate in well-insulated mating nucs stocked with drone colonies.

We carefully select candidates for new queens from our selection apiaries, choosing above-average colonies as breeder hives to ensure optimum queen quality. We pursue all of our rearing goals, with particular focus on gentle temperament and high honey yield.
