A blossom is simple and beautiful. Its beauty attracts hard-working bugs and pollinators, among them honey bees. The fruit is the peak of the plant, blossoms return and new fruit keeps appearing …
Cvet beekeeping is also very simple. We are familiar with the technology of working with bees. We care for bees and maintain colonies from one season to another.
Čebelarstvo Cvet is run by beekeeper Mitja Nakrst and his wife Katja. We meet with bees daily — they are our everyday inspiration and an endless challenge.
Mitja first encountered bees at the family apiary, which at first was mostly a puzzle. His professional work in beekeeping began during his studies at the Faculty of Agriculture in Maribor. His thesis, on the morphological characteristics of worker bees and queens of the honey bee (Apis mellifera carnica) in queen-rearing apiaries, was the result of in-depth study.
His mentor, prof. dr. Aleš Gregorc, guided Mitja professionally and gave him full support in his development. During his studies, Mitja was also influenced by practical work on honey-flow forecasting alongside Mr. Pavle Zdešar, then head of the observation and forecasting service for honey flow. Employment at the Agricultural Institute of Slovenia, in the animal husbandry department's beekeeping group, let him combine hands-on work with bees with work in the beekeeping laboratory and at the test apiary, take part in various trials, attend conferences and workshops, and collaborate with domestic and foreign experts, scientists, beekeepers and queen breeders.
Being active members of the local beekeeping community is rewarding for both Katja and Mitja. Together with all our bee colonies, we grow Cvet, which blossoms and bears fruit every year.
May honey flow!
